Steve MacAdams

Steve MacAdams is entering his third season as Player / Program Director with the Boston Americans. He is an accomplished professional with more than 30 years of progressive coaching experience. He comes with a strong reputation in player and program development where he has worked with numerous players and organizations throughout the United States.

He previously served as director of operations for Paul Vincent’s Dynamic Skating Ltd., one of the top hockey consulting and development camps in the United States. MacAdams, a two-year captain at Salem State College, has coached from the youth level through the Junior and college ranks. Recently, MacAdams’ has coached the Valley Jr. Warrior ’97 and ’02 Elite team, who have won the Massachusetts Select Championship and advanced to the USA Hockey Nationals. He has also coached U16 and U18 teams in the program. He also serves as assistant coach at Austin Prep School.

 

2013

Derek Mosca

Derek is a native of Revere, MA.  He currently resides in Peabody, MA with his wife Andrea, son Luca and daughter Giuliana.  Derek began his career and played his youth hockey in Revere, and then moved on to have an outstanding High School career as a 4 year Varsity player for Revere High School from 1996-2000.

Derek experienced great success as a player and was a multi year selection as a GBL All Star and voted captain his senior year.  After Derek’s playing days were completed he then began his coaching career. Most recently he has been coaching in the Mass Bay Chiefs program at the Learn to Play, Mite Development, and most recently Mite Elite Program. Derek’s belief in skating and Skill Development, as well as his commitment to teaching the game in a fun and positive environment fits in perfectly with our programs Development model.

 

2012

Joey Ryan

Joey grew up in Malden, MA. At age 16 he moved up to Quebec City to play for the Quebec Remparts of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League where he lived with and played for NHL Hall of Famer, Patrick Roy. Joey was a member of the 2006 Memorial Cup Championship Team where he played alongside current NHL stars Marc Edouard Vlasic of the San Jose Sharks and Alexander Radulov of the Dallas Stars. Joey was also drafted in the 2nd round of the 2006 NHL draft, #46 by the LA Kings. Joey now lives in Peabody, MA with his wife and three children. Joey brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our Americans coaching staff.

 

2011

Matt Wilson

Matthew Wilson was the leading scorer during his high school hockey career at Melrose High and a Middlesex League All Star in 1993.  He later went on to the University of New Hampshire where he stayed active playing in the Intramural Hockey League.  His love for the game of hockey only increased when his children began to skate.  He has been involved as a head coach for his children in hockey, baseball, and soccer for the past six years.  He is extremely dedicated to the kids and passionate about teaching them the game of hockey.  He is committed to developing the team’s hockey skills and hopes to create a positive environment for them as well.

 

2010

Greg McLean

Greg played high school hockey at Melrose High, where he was team captain and Middlesex League All Star in 1991. Greg went on to play NE Division I Prep Hockey at Brewster Academy.  After graduating from St Michael’s College in 1997, Greg began his professional career in finance where he still works today.  In 2001 Greg began his hockey coaching career and has been a head coach, assistant coach and hockey skills coach for Elite and Tier 1 hockey programs in the Boston area. Greg’s commitment to teaching the game of hockey and fostering a positive environment where his players will develop to their highest skill level will be the foundation of his Boston Americans team.

 

2009

Dave Vater

Dave is entering his second season with The Boston Americans as the 2009 Elite head coach. Dave is originally from Peabody, MA where he attended and played high school hockey, winning the Greater Boston League scoring title in 1985. Dave went onto play D1 college hockey at Merrimack College. During his Junior season Merrimack won the ECAC title and advanced to the NCAA final eight. After finishing his college career Dave went onto play professional hockey in France for the Nimes Gladiators, who were the French National Champions in 1991.

 

Marc Salsman

Marc was a highly recruited NCAA D1 and NHL prospect out of Malden MA and played his High School Hockey at Matignon HS from 1988-1992. In 1993 Marc moved on to play collegiately in Hockey East at UMass Lowell where he was an integral part of the River Hawks offense from 1993-1997.  Marc served as team captain of the 1997 team and tallied up over 100 points during his tenute at ULowell.  Marc went on to play 3 season of professional hockey in the ECHL, WCHL and WPHL.  Marc has over 15 years of coaching experience at the highest level ranging from Elite Youth to Junior A, including five season as General Manager and Head Coach at the Junior A level.

 

2008

Bob McCurtain

Bob MacCurtain is entering his second season with The Boston Americans as the 2008 Elite head coach. Bob has been the head coach of the Woburn High School Girls Varsity Hockey Team for the past 18 years. His teams have won 4 State championships, and played in 3 other state final games. Bob has coached 19 Woburn High School players on to play Division 1 and 3 college hockey. He has coached Tier 1 Hockey for over 10 years and has a strong reputation for player development.

Bob has served as a co-head coach at the USA Hockey National Development Select 14 Camps in 2003 and 2010. He has been a lecturer for the USA Hockey Coaching Education Program for the past 7 years. Bob is a level 5 certified coach with USA Hockey.

 

2007

Ralph Nichols

Ralph grew up in Woburn, MA. where  he attended and played his high school career at Woburn High and has been involved in playing, coaching, and refereeing hockey for over 30 years.

Ralph has coached all levels from instructional hockey thru the Midget and High School levels. Ralph was an assistant varsity coach at Matignon HS for 6 years and has most recently been an assistant coach for Austin Prep over the last 5 seasons. Ralph is a student of the game and believes in building a strong foundation
both as a player and person. He will be a great asset to the Americans organization.

U14 Full Season

Bill Pappas

Bill Pappas is one of the most highly regarded hockey coaches in Massachusetts over the past decade and has been involved in the development of a plethora of NCAA Division 1 and NHL players over that 10 year period. Bill was instrumental in the success of the ’97 VJW team that advanced to the USA Hockey Nationals 3 times (2009-2014) and boasts 3 NHL 1st & 2nd Round Draft Picks. Bill has also been key to the revitalization of the Austin Prep Hockey Program. Over the past 5 seasons Austin Prep has captured multiple CCL Titles and appeared in multiple Super 8 Tournaments. Bill is currently the Head Coach for Austin Prep as well as the Assistant coach for Valley Jr Warrior U-18 and 02 Elite squads. Bill has been with the VJW program as a defensive coach since 2006. As a player Bill is a former standout at Malden Catholic, New Prep and Westfield State.

Linc Murphy

Linc Murphy is entering his 2nd season with The Boston Americans. He has over 15 years of coaching experience at the youth hockey and high school levels. He has developed a strong reputation for getting players ready to transition from youth hockey to high school hockey. He is currently the JV Head Coach at Austin Prep and is a level 5 certified coach with USA Hockey. He played collegiately at the University of Southern Maine.

 

U16 Elite

Leo Barrett

Leo Barrett Jr is a lifelong resident of Lynnfield, MA and has been coaching for over 15 years from learn-to-skate to bantam age level.  He has been the head coach for the Boston Shamrocks Girls U12 and U14 Elite teams, Lynnfield Youth Hockey and Ice Cats Girls Program and most recently at the North Shore Shamrocks where he has been coaching for the last seven years.  He is a Level 4 Certified Coach with USA Hockey and his coaching philosophy focuses on effort, skill development and team play while developing a passion for the game and developing lifelong friendships.  Leo is a graduate of Malden Catholic and Bentley University. He has also coached Lacrosse, Soccer and Baseball over the last 20 years.

U18 Elite

Rob Beers

Rob is recognized as one of the top youth coaches in Massachusetts and has coached teams from mites to midgets at the Tier I level for over 14 seasons.  Beers played Junior A Hockey in the Maritime Junior Hockey League in Canada from 1987-1991.  He spent his first three seasons (1987-1990) with the Western Capitals in Summerside PEI and one season with the Halifax Mooseheads in Halifax, Nova Scotia and St John Eagles in St John, New Brunswick.  Following his junior career Rob went on to play at Salem State University from 1992-1996, where he had 4 championship seasons: 1991-1992 NCAA Final Four, 1992-1993 MASCAC Champion, 1993-1994 ECAC Champion & NCAA Final Four, 1994-1995 ECAC Champions.
